Insider guide
Shopping Aventura.
The story
Aventura Mall has been on Biscayne Boulevard since 1983 and has grown into a 300-store destination, the biggest mall in Miami. It's fully enclosed and air-conditioned, with free parking in five multi-level garages, so it's the default when the weather turns.
There are three department-store anchors, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Macy's, with a separate Macy's building for men's, home and furniture. The Nordstrom garage is the closest parking to the luxury wing, and the mall's public art program puts more than 25 contemporary works around the property. Add Eataly and the Aventura Slide Tower and it's easy to spend a full day.
What to Expect
Luxury is the headline. Hermès, Dior and Prada are on the lower level, Louis Vuitton spans two levels, and Gucci, Saint Laurent, Valentino, Fendi, Balmain and Missoni are all here. For jewelry, Cartier, BVLGARI and Tiffany & Co. are under one roof, and the CHANEL boutique sells only fragrance, makeup and skincare.
For everyday shopping, Aritzia, Reformation, SKIMS and Golden Goose cover fashion, and there's a Sephora and an Apple Store. RH and Hästens are worth a look if you're furnishing, and Ferrari's store sells apparel and collectibles, not cars.
Best Time to Visit
The mall is open 10am to 9:30pm Monday through Saturday and 11am to 8pm on Sunday, so weekday evenings give you plenty of time after work. A weekday right at 10am is the easiest time to park and shop. Because it's fully enclosed, it's the best pick in Miami for a day of steady rain.
If You Only Have an Hour
Park in the Nordstrom garage, which is closest to the luxury wing. Start at Hermès on the lower level, walk past Dior and Prada on the same level, then head up to Eataly on the third level for a coffee or fresh pasta to go.
Where to Eat
Eataly is the main event: Florida's first, two levels, with restaurants, fresh pasta made daily, a wine shop and a cooking school. Toku Modern Asian is on the upper level, and Motek in the outdoor courtyard does all-day Israeli brunch. Off the property, Barra Callao and Cotoa are Bib Gourmand picks, and Mutra holds a MICHELIN star but is closed Friday and Saturday.
