Miracle Mile

Coral Way, Douglas to LeJeune.

Coral Gables' main street runs four blocks along Coral Way from Douglas Road to LeJeune Road, rebranded Miracle Mile in the 1950s and rebuilt with a $21 million streetscape in 2016. It's Miami's bridal row, with design showrooms and a family jeweler that has been on the Mile since the mid-1950s; Giralda Plaza, a pedestrian dining street, is one block north.

Insider guide

Shopping Miracle Mile.

The story

Miracle Mile is Coral Gables' main street: four blocks of Coral Way between Douglas Road and LeJeune Road, named in the 1950s and rebuilt with a $21 million streetscape in 2016. It moves slower than the rest of Miami, with appointment-only salons and showrooms where you sit down to talk through a project.

Think of it as two loops. The Mile itself runs east to west, from the Douglas Road end to the 300 block. One block north, Aragon Avenue has galleries, rug and patio stores and the Books & Books flagship, and the 100 block of Giralda Avenue has been Giralda Plaza, a pedestrian street of restaurants and cafés, since 2017.

What to Expect

This is Miami's bridal row. Leggenda Bridal and SAYES Miami are at the Douglas Road end, and Merlili Bridal Boutique is in the 300 block. The 100 block is mostly kitchen and furniture showrooms: MiaCucina for Italian kitchens and closets, Kettal for Barcelona-made outdoor furniture, with Arte Cucine and Veneta Cucine farther west.

Jae's Jewelers at 237 Miracle Mile is the city's longest continually operating retailer, family-run since the 1950s and known for diamond studs and Swiss watches. Violetas sells gifts, dishware and furniture across a wide price range, and JANUS et Cie has a 5,000 sq ft furnishings flagship on Giralda.

Best Time to Visit

Come Tuesday through Saturday. Jae's and SAYES are closed Sunday and Monday, the bridal salons close on Sunday, and several showrooms close Sunday too. The free Coral Gables Trolley runs Monday through Saturday only. Books & Books opens at 9am and stays open until 11pm Monday to Saturday, so it covers both ends of the day. For an evening out, H. Benitez Fine Art Gallery takes part in Gables Gallery Night on first Fridays.

If You Only Have an Hour

Park in Garage 2 at 220 Aragon Ave. Walk one block south to Jae's Jewelers (237 Miracle Mile), then a few doors west to Violetas (257). Head back up to Aragon for Books & Books (265 Aragon Ave) and finish with a coffee in its café.

Where to Eat

Giralda Plaza is the easy lunch, with outdoor seating at most places. Caffe Abbracci at 318 Aragon Ave has been the white-tablecloth Italian standby since 1989. Zitz Sum and Bachour are both Bib Gourmand picks, and Shingo, a 14-seat omakase counter at 112 Alhambra Cir, holds a MICHELIN star.
