Miracle Mile to Merrick Park

Coral Gables shops at a slower pace than the rest of Miami. Miracle Mile is four blocks of Coral Way between Douglas Road and LeJeune Road, named in the 1950s and rebuilt with a $21 million streetscape in 2016. It is the city's bridal row, with Italian kitchen showrooms, galleries and a family jeweler that has been on the Mile since the 1950s. One block north, the 100 block of Giralda Avenue reopened in 2017 as Giralda Plaza, a pedestrian street of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. South down Ponce de Leon Boulevard, The Shops at Merrick Park is the open-air luxury center, anchored by Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.

The plan below fills a half-day: coffee, the Mile and Aragon Avenue in the morning, lunch on Giralda, and Merrick Park in the afternoon. Merrick Park opens at 11am every day, so it makes sense to do the Mile first.

Start with a Cafecito

Two MICHELIN Bib Gourmand cafés bracket the morning. Tinta y Cafe (1315 Ponce de Leon Blvd) is a bookish Cuban café north of the Mile for café con leche, croquetas and the pressed 'patria' sandwich. It sits on the Ponce de Leon trolley route, so you can ride down to the Mile afterward. Closer in, Bachour (2020 Salzedo St, Ste 103) is pastry chef Antonio Bachour's all-day bakery-café, known for jewel-like tarts. If you would rather start among the books, Books & Books Coral Gables (265 Aragon Ave) has a café inside the flagship and opens at 9am daily.

Miracle Mile, East to West

Start at the Douglas Road end. Most bridal salons on the Mile work by appointment, so book ahead if a gown is on the list. Leggenda Bridal (34 Miracle Mile) and SAYES Miami (88 Miracle Mile) are the first two; SAYES carries several designers and handles accessories and alterations.

The 100 block is design territory. MiaCucina (105–107 Miracle Mile) shows Italian kitchens, closets and furnishings for custom renovations, and Kettal (147 Miracle Mile) is the Barcelona design house's showroom for contemporary outdoor furniture. Upstairs at 130 Miracle Mile, Suite 230, the Jorge Cavelier gallery shows the Colombian sculptor and painter's work.

The 200 block holds the Mile's oldest name. Jae's Jewelers (237 Miracle Mile) is the city's longest continually operating retailer, family-run since the 1950s and known for diamond studs, tennis bracelets and Swiss watches. Arte Cucine (221 Miracle Mile) is a second kitchen showroom with European cabinetry, and Violetas (257 Miracle Mile) sells gifts, dishware and furniture at both affordable and high-end prices. Across the street, Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre (280 Miracle Mile) stages musicals, dramas and children's shows in the 1948 Miracle Theatre; check the schedule if you want to come back for an evening show.

Finish the Mile in the 300 block at Veneta Cucine (347 Miracle Mile), for Italian modular kitchens, and Merlili Bridal Boutique (356 Miracle Mile), an appointment-only salon with designer gowns, bridesmaid dresses and size-inclusive samples. It is open Monday to Saturday and closed Sunday.

Aragon Avenue and Giralda

Walk one block north to Aragon Avenue for the second loop. H. Benitez Fine Art Gallery (233 Aragon Ave) takes part in Gables Gallery Night on first Fridays. Patio & Things (240 Aragon Ave) sells patio sets, loungers and umbrellas, and Grand Oriental Rug Gallery (383 Aragon Ave) carries hand-knotted Oriental and contemporary carpets. Books & Books is the anchor: the flagship of the independent bookstore, with antiquarian and children's rooms and author readings, open until 11pm Monday to Saturday and 10pm on Sunday.

One more block north, JANUS et Cie (273 Giralda Ave) runs a 5,000 sq ft flagship for indoor and outdoor furnishings and performance textiles. It keeps office hours: weekdays 9:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 11am to 4pm.

Lunch

Giralda Plaza is the easy answer. The city lists Mexican, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Greek, Mediterranean and Peruvian cooking on the block, with indoor and outdoor seating at most places. For a sit-down Italian lunch, Caffe Abbracci (318 Aragon Ave) has been the Gables' white-tablecloth standby since 1989. Zitz Sum (396 Alhambra Cir, Ste 155), a Bib Gourmand pick, serves creative Asian small plates and dumplings in an office-building lobby a few blocks away.

Afternoon at Merrick Park

Head south on Ponce de Leon to The Shops at Merrick Park, which opened in 2002 around landscaped courtyards. Center hours are Monday to Thursday 11am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 11am to 9pm, and Sunday 11am to 6pm.

The luxury run is short and walkable. Louis Vuitton (358 San Lorenzo Ave) opened in September 2023 as the brand's first freestanding store in the area, with ready-to-wear, the full luggage line and a fragrance counter. Gucci, Jimmy Choo and CH Carolina Herrera share the same address. For watches and jewelry, Mayors (Rolex) (342 San Lorenzo Ave, Suite 1005) is a 4,700 sq ft flagship that also carries Cartier, OMEGA, Breitling and TUDOR, and Tiffany & Co. is at 342 San Lorenzo Ave.

Then the two anchors. Neiman Marcus (390 San Lorenzo Ave) has a Bvlgari shop-in-shop and Mariposa restaurant upstairs. Nordstrom (4310 Ponce de Leon Blvd) is a three-level, 200,000 sq ft store with the Bazille restaurant.

If you are furnishing a home, Merrick Park doubles as a design stop: Arhaus (4400 Ponce de Leon Blvd #1600) runs a 16,195 sq ft showroom with free design services, and BoConcept (342 San Lorenzo Ave #110) offers free interior design consultations. For something smaller, gorjana (370 San Lorenzo Ave #2425) sells layerable gold jewelry with pieces under $100.

Trolley, Parking and Dinner

The Trolley

The City of Coral Gables runs a free trolley Monday through Saturday from 6:30am to 10pm, with no service on Sunday, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas. The Ponce de Leon route runs north and south on Ponce de Leon Boulevard between the Douglas Metrorail Station and Flagler Street, which links Tinta y Cafe, Miracle Mile and the Merrick Park end of Ponce. A Southern Loop pilot, launched November 3, 2025 for one year, extends service from the Douglas Road station to Red Road.

Parking

Park once near the Mile. The city's municipal garages include Garage 2 (220 Aragon Ave), Garage 4 (385 Andalusia Ave), Garage 6 (51 Aragon Ave) and the Minorca Garage (254 Minorca Ave). The posted rate is $1 per 24 minutes with an $18 daily maximum. At Merrick Park, the center garage at 4251 Salzedo St is paid, with the first 15 minutes free, and Metrorail's Douglas Road station is nearby.

Staying for Dinner

The Gables is a serious dinner town. Shingo (112 Alhambra Cir), Coral Gables' MICHELIN one-star, is a 14-seat omakase counter. Kojin 2.0 (804 Ponce de Leon Blvd) and Elyu Omakase (2626 Ponce de Leon Blvd) are both in the MICHELIN selection, and Perry's Steakhouse & Grille (358 San Lorenzo Ave) is on Merrick Park's ground level. On the way out, drive past The Biltmore, the 1926 hotel whose tower is modeled on Seville's Giralda.
